Are you towing your Trailer overseas anytime soon? Verify whether it is necessary to register a trailer prior to Towing it internationally. You are required to register all trailers exceeding 750kg in order to travel to or transit through the majority of countries in Europe.
All trailers exceeding 750kg must be registered to drive to or through the majority of countries in Europe, with the exception of Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, and Spain. However, you must register your trailer to tow it through any country where the rules apply to reach such as Cyprus, Malta or Spain.
Consequently, trailers undertaking international trips are required to:
- Exhibit their own registration plate (distinct from the vehicle that is towing them)
- Have a trailer registration certificate available for presentation to foreign authorities upon request.
Registering Your Trailer:
You are required to register your trailer in order to travel within the following countries: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
